Week 31: Opinions

I love how everyone has an opinion about my pregnant belly, and how everyone loves to share said opinions.

It just cracks me up because no one is right, because everyone is different!

I had one lady also choke on her cookie when I told her how far along I was. Her response was an indication of her absolute disbelief that I still had a few months to go, because in her words, "But you're so big already!"

Thanks. Thanks a lot.

I'll have one person say, "Wow--two months to go still? My my my...." and the very next person will rub my tummy in awe and say, "You're so little!! How cute!!"

What the ... ?!

I get such a kick out of Moms, who apparently know everything about my pregnancy because they've been pregnant before, who love to tell me:

"You're carrying so high!"

"Wow--he's sitting low isn't he?"

"Aren't you just a little basketball?"

"Oh, he's going to come early! He's running out of room!"

"You'll go late--just get ready. You'll definitely go late."

"You think this is tiring? You just wait!"

"Yep! That's his little butt! I'm dead sure of it!"
(come to find out the next day, it was his foot....U/S are much more accurate than over confident Mamas!)

I'm just getting such a kick out of it all--and I'm sure as I get bigger, it's only going to get funnier!!

Let the random and inaccurate, but well-meant pregnancy comments continue!

  1. I have a hard time deciding which comments are funny...or just plain annoying! ha! Sometimes the woman/prego/defensive one in me just wants to be like: "everyone's different! who cares! no one's right!" hehe:) Today I had a lady tell me I don't need to gain any weight during pregnancy; it's just something doctors tell you to do, but the baby will be fine even if you don't gain weight (which COULD be true, but personally, I'm just going with what my body is doing {i.e. gaining 15 lbs so far} and we'll go from there!). I think what annoys me most is unsolicited advice about either pregnancy or parenting. I've had friends tell me "their baby does this" or "when they were pregnant, it was this way", like my experience is supposed to be the exact same as theirs! It's also funny to hear comments, especially from my dear grandma who INSISTS we're having a girl because of the way I'm carrying, and a few well-meaning friends who also insist we're having a girl because of where the heart rate has been. Seriously?! How does where my uterus is placed in my body determine my baby's reproductive organs?? And the heart rate will get lower and lower all the time, so I don't know how that myth works either. Cracks me up!!!! Oh, pregnancy. I'd say the comments and advice once we are parenting aren't going to get any better or less frequent. In fact, I'm sure it's going to become MORE frequent...Oh, God's grace, how I will need you more! haha!! Thanks for sharing your stories! too funny!

  2. Totally know what you mean. And it just keeps going once they come out of you... opinions, opinions, opinions! Just nod and smile. Or you can be sassy (like me!). :-)

  5. Hi! Your comments are absolutely delightful. Just be YOURSELF and enjoy this amazing time of your life. Exhausting, true. But amazing, right?
Love to you, Erik and Bubba,

  6. Most of the time I think women like to comment because it gives them a chance to reminisce about their pregnancies. I know I mourn the end of being a pregnant mommy. Its a hard time, but such a blessing to be that close and connected to a child, special and just for you - the mommy!

Love you girl - savor every minute, he will be here sooooo soon!

  7. Hey Kristin, this is Lydia. I had a patient give me a piece of advice when I was pregnant, and it was this: Don't listen to people's advice. You know best. You're the Mama.
